Ben Harper and Jack Johnson - Please Me Like You Want To

If u r here, congratulations!
It means you've been good........
Welcome to heaven!
i love the combination of the two guitars!!

Don't do me any favors
matter of fact why don't you do yourself a few.
Your presence ain't nobody's blessing
I've got plenty of other things I could do.
Oh no, not another excuse
your tired silly games for me are just no use
and now it's plain for me to see
you're with somebody
that you don't want to be

So won't you please
please me like you want to
not like you have to
or won't you just go on
and leave me leaving me
is the least that you could do

You could have spared me so much misery
and told me you just wanted a friend.
Believe me there is a difference
when you mean it and when you pretend.
Or was I just you habit
cause I know a habit is a hard thing to break,
but won't you spare me a little mercy
there's only so much that I can take

No me hagas ningún favor,
de hecho por qué no te haces tú alguno.
Tu presencia no es una bendición para nadie,
hay un montón de otras cosas que podría hacer.

Oh no, no otra excusa,
tus cansinos y aburridos juegos
no me sirven para nada,
ahora veo claro que estás con alguien
con quien no quieres estar

No me complacerascomo quieras,
no como debes o simplemente vas a continuar,
y abandonarme, abandonarme

Beth Gibbons Show

i like how quiet and resptcful the audience is. this is one of the best performances I've seen in a very long time. so heartbreaking.
Beth said in an interview that she didn't really liked being on stage. She feels clumsy and unable to say anything. God I love her so!!

SIR KEN ROBINSON: CHANGING PARADIGMS

EVERY COUNTRY ON EARTH, AT THE MOMENT, ARE REFORMING PUBLIC EDUCATION.
THERE ARE TWO REASONS FOR IT:
1. HOW DO WE EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN TO TAKE THEIR PLACE IN THE ECONOMIES OF THE 21st CENTURY? GIVEN THAT WE CAN'T ANTICIPATE WHAT THE ECONOMY WILL LOOK LIKE AT THE END OF NEXT WEEK.
2. CULTURAL IDENTITY (I KNOW WHERE I AM FROM). GLOBALISATION (IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL).

HOW DO WE SQUARE THAT CIRCLE?
DOING WHAT THEY DID IN THE PAST...

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" is a popular song written by Eric Idle that was originally featured in the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian and has gone on to become a common singalong at public events such as football matches as well as funerals.

Vídeo de youtube Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
words and music by Eric Idle
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Background: This song is from Life of Brian by Monty Python. From what I heard, they were filming the last scene of Life of Brian and were all bored and hot sitting up on their crucifixes. So Eric Idle started singing a little ditty. Everyone (but Eric) liked it so much that they decided to use it. It has sine become one of our most popular songs as well.

Bobby Hebb: Sunny (1966)

"Sunny" is the name of a song written by Bobby Hebb. It is one of the most covered popular songs, with hundreds of versions released. BMI rates "Sunny" number 25 in its "Top 100 songs of the century."

Hebb wrote the song after November 22, 1963, the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Hebb's older brother Harold was killed in a knife fight outside a Nashville nightclub. Hebb was devastated by both events and many critics say that those events inspired the tune. According to Hebb, he wrote the song as an expression of a preference for a "sunny" disposition over a "lousy" disposition. Hebb has said about "Sunny":

"All my intentions were just to think of happier times – basically looking for a brighter day – because times were at a low tide. After I wrote it, I thought "Sunny" just might be a different approach to what Johnny Bragg was talking about in 'Just Walkin' in the Rain.'"

Many other artists have recorded versions of the song. Georgie Fame's and Cher's issues both charted in the UK Top 75 in 1966. Other covering artists include Public Enemies, Richard Anthony, James Brown and Marva Whitney, Robert Mitchum, the Classics IV, the Electric Flag, Jose Feliciano, Luis Miguel, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Seasons, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Earl Grant, Mary Wells, Paul Carrack, Jamiroquai, Stanley Jordan, Marion Rung, Mina, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Mathis, Les McCann, Chris Montez, The Head Shop, Leonard Nimoy, Wilson Pickett, Buddy Richard, Del Shannon, Nick Cave, Oscar Peterson with Joe Pass and Ray Brown, Dusty Springfield, Helge Schneider, War, Ajico, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Twinset featuring Barnaby Weir, and The Walker Brothers.

PAUL R. CARR: Does Your Vote Count? Critical Pedagogy and Democracy

Paul R. Carr asserts that democracy must be cultivated in a vigorous, conscientious, meaningful and critical way in and through education in order for it to have salience in society, especially within a neoliberal conjuncture that promotes limited space for epistemological interrogation of how we understand and are engaged in maintaining and/or transforming our societies.

The book aims to move the focus on democracy away from voting, and place it more properly on the importance of social justice and political literacy as a way of understanding what democracy is and, importantly, how to make it more relevant for all of society.

The book concludes that another democracy is possible, as well as being desirable, and that education is the fundamental intersection in which it must be developed.

BLOG DE MI TEACHER

Learn Real English LLC

Hi. How are you doing today? How is your English learning?

In this newsletter, we will talk again about research. We know this doesn't sound like a very exciting topic ;)

However, it is a VERY important topic. Why? Because independent research is the only way we can judge different English learning methods.

Everyone has an opinion. Some people will tell you, "You must study grammar". Some will tell you, "You must practice speaking all the
time".

Everybody has an idea about the best way to learn English. How do we know who is right?

We only know by looking at independent, test research. We must look at a lot of studies to find the answer.

When we do that, we find the following:

1. Listening to understandable and interesting English is the best way to improve speaking.

2. The Listen & Answer Stories Method is the most powerful teaching method to improve English speaking (and listening).

3. Grammar study and translation are not successful. Memorizing word lists is not successful.

4. Free, easy, fun reading is the best way to build vocabulary and advanced grammar ("academic English").

That is what the research tells us. How does the research work? Usually they divide a big group of students.

One group is put in a normal English class (grammar study, vocabulary study, etc.). The other group is put in a Listen & Answer Story class (also called "TPRS").

After 4-24 months, they test both groups of students. The students in the Listen & Answer group do better on Vocabulary tests, Speaking tests, Listening tests, Reading tests, and even Grammar tests. The longer the time, the bigger the difference between the groups.

That is why we are so strong about the Effortless English method. Our methods are not based on opinion only. AJ developed these methods based on the research.

Good luck with your English learning,

Academy Award

The Academy Award, also known as the Oscar, is an accolade bestowed by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, including directors, actors, and writers. The formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in the world, and is televised live in more than 200 countries annually. It is also the oldest award ceremony in the media; its equivalents, the Grammy Awards (for music), Emmy Awards (for television), and Tony Awards (for theatre) are modeled after the Academy.

The AMPAS was originally conceived by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio boss Louis B. Mayer as a professional honorary organization to help improve the film industry’s image and help mediate labor disputes. The Oscar itself was later initiated by the Academy as an award "of merit for distinctive achievement" in the industry.

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held on May 16, 1929, at the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood to honor outstanding film achievements of the 1927/1928 film season. The most recent ceremony, honoring films in 2010, was held at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on February 27, 2011.

83rd Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films of 2010 and took place February 27, 2011. During the ceremony, Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) were awarded in 24 competitive categories.
The King's Speech won four awards, all in major categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay. Inception also won four awards, all in the technical categories. Other multiple winners included The Social Network with three awards and Alice in Wonderland, The Fighter, and Toy Story 3, with two awards each. In addition, Black Swan, In a Better World, Inside Job, and The Wolfman each received one award; the non-feature films God of Love, The Lost Thing, and Strangers No More each won in their respective short-subject categories.

Westlife - Uptown Girl (1983 )

Is a song written and performed by musician Billy Joel, first released in 1983 on his album An Innocent Man. The lyrics describe a working-class "downtown man" attempting to woo a wealthy "uptown girl." The single peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts in the US, and #1 in the UK, staying at that position for 5 weeks; it was the second biggest selling single of 1983 in the United Kingdom behind only Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon", which Joel had knocked off the number one position on November 1, 1983; in 1988, Rolling Stone ranked "Uptown Girl" #99 on their list of the 100 most important singles of the period 1963-1988. The song was the 19th biggest selling single of the 1980s in the United Kingdom.

The style of music, including the doo-wop beat, the close harmonies and Joel's use of falsetto singing, is reminiscent of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The song also has the uncommon feature of changing key from the original two times before giving back, for a total of three keys.

Hello, Dolly! (1964 )

"Hello, Dolly!" was first sung by Carol Channing, who starred as Dolly Gallagher Levi in the original 1964 Broadway cast. In December 1963, at the behest of his manager, Louis Armstrong made a demonstration recording of "Hello, Dolly!" for the song's publisher to use to promote the show. Hello, Dolly! opened on January 16, 1964 at the St. James Theatre in New York City, and it quickly became a major success. The same month, Kapp Records released Armstrong's publishing demo as a commercial single.

The best-known recording is by Louis Armstrong in 1964. His version reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, ending The Beatles' streak of three number-one hits in a row over 14 consecutive weeks (they also held the top three spots) and becoming the biggest hit of Armstrong's career, followed by a gold-selling album of the same name. The song also spent nine weeks atop the adult contemporary chart shortly after the opening of the musical.

"Hello, Dolly!" won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1965, and Armstrong received a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance, Male. Louis Armstrong also performed the song (together with Barbra Streisand) in the popular 1969 film Hello, Dolly!.

I said hello, dolly,......well, hello, dolly
It’s so nice to have you back where you belong
You’re lookin’ swell, dolly.......i can tell, dolly
You’re still glowin’...you’re still crowin’...you’re still goin’ strong
I feel that room swayin’......while the band’s playin’
One of your old favourite songs from way back when
So..... take her wrap, fellas.......find her an empty lap, fellas
Dolly’ll never go away again

(instrumental break)

I said hello, dolly,.....well, hello, dolly

You’re lookin’ swell, dolly.....i can tell, dolly
You’re still glowin’...you’re still crowin’...you’re still goin’ strong
I feel the room swayin’...while that ole band keeps on playin’
One of your old favourite songs from way back when
So...golly, gee, fellas....find her an empty knee, fellas
Dolly’ll never go away....i said she’ll never go away
