Duffy : Smoke Without Fire
Duffy : Smoke Without Fire
If I'd known you were cheating me,
I would have saved myself and set you free.
If I learned you weren't the loving kind,
I would have saved some peace of mind.
My friends told me you would break my heart,
And never last, we would surely part.
There's no smoke without fire,
Baby, baby you're a liar.
People talk in this little town,
Rumours keep spreading all around.
And now word has it you've been foolin' me,
I'm so blind that I cannot see.
My friends told me never to believe in you,
You never loved me you were never true.
There's no smoke without fire,
Baby, baby you're a liar.
No there's no smoke without fire.
Baby, baby you're a liar.
You're a liar
You're a liar
You're a liar
Baby you're a liar.
There's no light without a flame,
There's no use in having you to blame.
No
There's no smoke without fire.
Baby, baby you're a liar.
You're a liar

LARRY McCRAY: Blues is my Business (2001)
I got a heart full of trouble, a house full of sin.
And things are bad as they ever been.
If trouble were money,
I'd have more money than any man should.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
If I had a dollar for every broken heart,
I'd be drinkin' fine wine and eatin' caviar.
If trouble were money,
I'd have more money than any man should.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
Well business, the business is good.
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business, the blues is my business.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
LICKS -----------
It's a world full of trouble and a world full of pain,
I'll take the problem, but I won't take no blame.
If trouble were money,
I'd have more money than any man should.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business, the blues is my business.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business, the blues is my business
The blues is my business, the blues is my business
And business is good.
I'm open for business in your neighborhood,
The blues is my business, and business is good.
The blues is my business,
The blues is my business and business is good.

LABI SIFFRE: It Must Be Love (1971) + MADNESS
I never thought I'd miss you
Half as much as I do
And I never thought I'd feel this way
The way I feel
About you
As soon as I wake up
Every night, every day
I know that it's you I need
To take the blues away
It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more, nothing less
Love is the best
How can it be that we can
Say so much without words?
Bless you and bless me
Bless the bees
And the birds
I've got to be near you
Every night, every day
I couldn't be happy
Any other way
It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more, nothing less
Love is the best
As soon as I wake up
Every night, every day
I know that it's you I need
To take the blues away
It must be love, love, love
It must be love, love, love
Nothing more, nothing less
Love is the best
It must be love, love, love...

MADNESS: Our House (1982)
Madness are a British pop/ska band from Camden Town, London, which formed in 1976. In 2009, the band have continued to perform with their most recognised lineup of seven members, although their lineup has varied slightly over the years. They were one of the most prominent bands of the late-1970s 2 Tone ska revival.
"Our House" is a single by English ska/pop band Madness, from their UK album The Rise & Fall and their US compilation Madness. Released in November 1982, it peaked at #5 in the UK singles chart and was their biggest hit in the United States, reaching #7 in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983. Though Madness produced many successful singles over a period of twenty years especially in their native United Kingdom, the enormous American popularity of "Our House" means that they are often regarded as one hit wonders in the USA (though technically they are two hit wonders in America, as their version of "It Must Be Love" also subsequently entered the US top 40). It won Best Song at the May 1983 Ivor Novello awards.Songwriters: Foreman, Chris; Smyth, Carl; Mcpherson, Graham; Barson, Michael; Bedford, Mark; Woodgate, Daniel; Thompson, Lee
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house it has a crowd
There's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, in the middle of our street
(Something tells you)
(That you've got to get away from it)
Our house, in the middle of our
Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways
[Instrumental Interlude]
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
I remember way back then when
Everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time
Such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play
Simply waste the day away
Then we'd say
Nothing would come between us
Two dreamers
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street

COLDPLAY- Clocks (2002)
Coldplay are a British alternative rock band. Formed in London in 1997, the group comprises Chris Martin (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass guitar), and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals, other instruments).
"Clocks" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Built around a repeating piano riff, the song features cryptic lyrics of contrast and urgency themes. Several remixes of the track exist and its riff has been widely sampled. "Clocks" won Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammy Awards, and, to date, is one of Coldplay's most successful songs. "Clocks" is built around a repeating piano riff, and features a minimalist soundscape of drums and bass. Martin applied an ostinato and a descending scale on the piano chord progression, which switches from major to minor chords. The music of "Clocks" is also provided by synthesizers and a sparse string arrangement.
Clocks lyrics
Songwriters: Berryman, Guy; Buckland, Jon; Champion, Will; Martin, Chris;
The lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead singing
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed singing
You are
You are
Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know singing
Come out upon my seas
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease? Singing
You are
You are
You are
You are
You are
You are
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
You are
You are
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Will this be on iTunes?
--No, not the iTunes store, but it can be in your iTunes for free. Download it from my website, djearworm.com. You don't need to pay the iTunes store to put free mp3s in your iTunes software, you just download the mp3 and then double-click on it (or drag it into your iTunes if that doesn't work).
2. Why is that artist I hate in your list, and why isn't that artist I love in your list?
--This is based on the Top 25 songs of Billboard's 2009 year-end list. I didn't choose the songs. The complete list is here: http://www.billboard.com/charts-year-...
3. Why is that song from last year in the list? Why isn't that song which was so popular toward the end of the year on the list?
--Billboard's cutoff date is Dec 1st, to give them time to calculate the results and publish them well before New Years Day, which is good for me, since I need a little time to put this together and release it before the end of the year!
4. How long did this take you?
--If you add it up, about a month. About two weeks earlier in the year using educated guesswork, and then two weeks between when Billboard released the list and when I put it out.
5. What software did you use?
--Ableton Live for arranging the music. It's AWESOME, and it's what I use to DJ live with as well. Final Cut Pro for the video. For acapella extraction, see the next question.
6. How did you get the vocals without the instruments?
--if you search for "acapella" with the name of your song, you might find an isolated vocal. In some cases, I use a bit of Adobe Audition (the Center Channel Extractor effect) for vocal isolation. This removes instruments that are to the left or right in your stereo, and leaves only the sound that's in the center. You can also use this effect to take an instrumental and a full track to create an acapella. Check out my book "Audio Mashup Construction Kit" for more details on this technique, there's a whole chapter on it. In a few instances I used Melodyne Studio for vocal isolation.
7. What are the lyrics? Who sang that one part? I didn't hear that one artist!
--I've posted the complete lyrics here, as well as a guide to where each of the lyrics and instruments came from:

Fly Me to the Moon (1954)
Frank Sinatra recorded the song on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing accompanied by Count Basie. In 2000, Utada Hikaru released a cover of this song in her single Wait & See: Risk. Yi So-yeon, a spaceflight participant from South Korea who flew aboard Soyuz TMA-12 reported in a post-mission news conference that she had sung "Fly Me to the Moon" for the other crew members while in space.
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby , kiss me
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, in other words
I love ... you

GRACE JONES: I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango) (1981)
Grace Jones (born Grace Mendoza, May 19, 1948) is a Jamaican-American singer, model, and actress. Jones was born in Jamaica, the daughter of Marjorie and Robert W. Jones, who was a politician and Apostolic clergyman. Her parents took Grace and her brother Randy to relocate to Syracuse, New York in 1965. Before becoming a successful model in New York City and Paris, Jones studied theater at Onondaga Community College.
I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)" is the third single from Grace Jones' album Nightclubbing. The song juxtaposes Libertango, an Argentine tango classic, written by bandoneonist Ástor Piazzolla and first recorded by the composer himself in 1974, against a reggae arrangement and new lyrics penned by Jones herself and Barry Reynolds, and the song also includes spoken parts in French; "Tu cherches quoi ? À rencontrer la mort ? Tu te prends pour qui ? Toi aussi tu détestes la vie..." (Translated: "What are you searching for? To meet death? Who do you think you are? You hate life, you too...") Jones also recorded Spanish and Italian language versions of the track.
"I've Seen That Face Before" which describes the darker side of Parisian nightlife counts as one of Jones' signature tunes. It was also featured in key moments of the 1988 thriller movie Frantic, set in Paris and starring Harrison Ford, the song however did not make it onto the film's accompanying soundtrack album. It also features in Raw Deal (1986 film.
Strange, I've seen that face before,
Seen him hanging 'round my door,
Like a hawk stealing for the prey,
Like the night waiting for the day,
Strange, he shadows me back home,
Footsteps echo on the stones,
Rainy nights, on Hausmann Boulevard,
Parisian music, drifting from the bars,
Tu cherches quoi, rencontrer la mort,
Tu te prends pour qui, toi aussi tu detestes la vie,
Dance in bars and restaurants,
Home with anyone who wants,
Strange he's standing there alone,
Staring eyes chill me to the bone.
Dans sa chambre, Joel et sa valise,
un regard sur ses fringues,
Sur les murs, des photos,
Sans regret, sans mélo,
La porte est claquée, Joel est barré.
