JAMES BROWN - This Is A Man's World (1966)

"It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (1966)

James Brown - It's A Man's Man's Man's World
Album: Turn It Loose

This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark

This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys
Man makes then happy 'cause man makes them toys
And after man has made everything, everything he can
You know that man makes money to buy from other man

This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness

SALIF KEITA - Moffou (2002)

Salif Keita (born August 25, 1949) is an internationally recognized afro-pop singer-songwriter from Mali. He is unique not only because of his reputation as the Golden Voice of Africa, but because he has albinism and is a direct descendant of the founder of the Mali Empire, Sundiata Keita. This royal heritage meant that under the Malian caste system, he should never have become a singer, which was deemed to be a griot’s role.
Keita found success in Europe as one of the African stars of world music, but his work was sometimes criticised for the gloss of its production and for the occasional haphazard quality. However, shortly after the turn of the Millennium he returned to Bamako in Mali to live and record. His first work after going home, 2002’s Moffou, was hailed as his best album in many years, and Keita was inspired to build a recording studio in Bamako, which he used for his latest album, M'Bemba, released in October 2005.

A Masterpiece from One of the greatest African Singers, January 27, 2003
By
o dubhthaigh (north rustico, pei, canada)

As much as I enjoy African music, I was totally unprepared for how remarkable this CD is. From the opening moments, the music sweeps you away. Cesaria Evora comes in to intone her magic and you are thereafter transported to a spiritual place of sublime beauty. Keita is regarded as one of the greatest singers ever in all of African music. With "Moffou" he has created his masterpiece. You will find yourself returning again and again to the sinewy turns of rhythm, the percolating bass and guitar lines, the lilt of the African strings and the passionate and delicate beat of the percussion. There is so much here that is wonderful!Keita's voice aches with entreaty, resonates with joy, and dances in celebration throughout the album. The photography and the graphics are beautiful. The musicians are first rate and seemed to have understood the wealth of this material and so bring its treasures to lustrous effect in their playing. It is sympathetically produced. This is not a big production glossy studio effort. It is organic, yet professional. Sublime. All in all, a diamond to turn over and over in your soul.

A Triumph, June 12, 2002
By
"mobby_uk" (London United Kingdom)
I just heard the new album by the great Maliean singer Salif Keita, and was hooked from the first tune. Compared to his last two offerings, Keita returns to more traditional instruments and more soulful singing. The first track Yamore, captivates the listener from the start, and it only gets better with every track. African music is diverse, powerful and very rich, and certainly Keita is one of its best representatives. It is artists such as Keita and Ismael Lo that got me into World Music few years ago and I never looked back ever since, discovering a whole new
musical world, and albums like Moffu only reinforces the pleasure I get from such talents. Music after all is one meduim that transcends cultures, borders, and faiths, and unite people like no other art form can.Buy this CD, sit down, relax and let the sounds of Africa transport you away..

One of the best albums ever...., October 5, 2005
By
L. Purdy "voyager" (Japan)
The music of "Mouffou" is haunting. That is the only way I can describe it. It was one of those special finds during a visit to a local music store. I can not imagine not having been introduced to Salif Keita. This album is by far one of the best music purchases I HAVE EVER MADE! The music is rich and full of emotion - it's a complete musical experience, one which I return to again and again.

JAMES BROWN- I Feel Good

Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would, now
So good, so good, I got you

Whoa! I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you

{ sax, two licks to bridge }

When I hold you in my arms
I know that I can't do no wrong
and when I hold you in my arms
My love won't do you no harm

and I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you

{ sax, two licks to bridge }

When I hold you in my arms
I know that I can't do no wrong
and when I hold you in my arms
My love can't do me no harm

and I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you

Whoa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now
I feel good, I knew that I would
So good, so good, I got you
So good, so good, I got you
So good, so good, I got you

Mano Negra

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Mano Negra was a French band fronted by Manu Chao. The band was founded in 1987 by Manu, his brother Antoine, and his cousin Santiago Casariego. It split around 1995, but many members had already left by 1992.
Mano Negra mixed a number of styles: Punk rock (influenced by The Clash), Reggae, Ska and Latin music (with a brass section). The band, which is still revered on three continents, had been among the pioneers of world music fusion and are a direct influence on countless bands in Europe and South America. Manu Chao - Bongo bong

Mama was queen of the mambo, Papa was king of the congo,
Deep down in the jungle, I started bangin' my first bongo,
Every monkey'd like to be, in my place instead of me,
Cause I'm the king of bongo, baby, I'm the king of bongo bong.

I went to the big town, where there is a lot of sound,
From the jungle to the city, looking for a bigger crown,
So I play my boogie, for the people of big city,
But they don't go crazy, when I'm bangin' on my boogie,
I'm the...
"King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong",
Hear me when I come Baby, "King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong".

Nobody'd like to be in my place instead of me,
Cause nobody go crazy when I'm bangin' on my boogie,
I'm a king without a crown hanging loose in a big town,
But I'm the king of bongo, baby, I'm the king of bongo bong,
"King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong",
Hear me when I come Baby, "King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong".
Hear me when I come.

They say that I'm a clown, making too much dirty sound,
They say there is no place for little monkey in this town.
Nobody'd like to be in my place instead of me,
Cause nobody go crazy when I'm bangin' on my boogie,
I'm the...
"King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong",
Hear me when I come Baby, "King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong".

Bangin' on my bongo all that swing belongs to me,
I'm so happy there's nobody in my place instead of me,
I'm a king without a crown hanging loose in a big town,
I'm the king of bongo, baby, I'm the king of bongo bong,
"King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong"...
Hear me when I come Baby, "King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong".
Hear me when I come.

Mama was queen of the mambo, Papa was king of the congo,
Deep down in the jungle, I started bangin' my first bongo,
Every monkey'd like to be, in my place instead of me,
Cause I'm the king of bongo, baby, I'm the king of bongo bong.

Hear me when I come, hear me when I come Baby, hear me when I come.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - Dancing in the Dark (1984)

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949), nicknamed The Boss, is an American songwriter, singer and musician. He has recorded and toured with the E Street Band. Springsteen is widely known for his brand of heartland rock infused with pop hooks, poetic lyrics, and Americana sentiments centered around his native New Jersey.
"Dancing in the Dark" was the biggest of seven hit singles from Born in the U.S.A., peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard music charts. The music video for the song featured a young Courteney Cox dancing on stage with Springsteen, an appearance which helped kickstart the actress's career.

Dancing in the Dark

I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help
You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is
You can't start a fire
you can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
come on baby this laugh's on me
Stay on the streets of this town
and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
come on now baby gimme just one look
You can't start a fire
sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

You can't start a fire
worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby

(Let Me Be You) Teddy Bear
(words & music by Mann-Low)

Baby let me be
your lovin' Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

I don't wanna be a tiger
'Cause tigers play too rough
I don't wanna be a lion
'Cause lions ain't the kind you love enough
Just wanna be, your Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

Baby let me be, around you every night
Run your fingers through my hair
And cuddle me real tight
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

I don't wanna be a tiger
'Cause tigers play too rough
I don't wanna be a lion
'Cause lions ain't the kind you love enough
Just wanna be, your teddy bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear

I just wanna be your teddy bear

SUM 41 - Fat Lip (2001)

"Fat Lip" is the first single off the pop punk band Sum 41's second album All Killer No Filler. It is the band's most successful single, topping the Billboard Modern Rock chart, as well as MTV's Total Request Live and MuchMusic's MuchMusic Countdown in the summer of 2001.

The high-tempo song includes elements of rapcore, hip hop (particularly Beastie Boys), and pop punk, with Deryck, Dave, and Steve getting some lines in (Deryck providing some hip-hop while mainly doing the singing). "The verses are really about what we do: growing up in the suburbs, going to parties and hanging out with our friends, and causing trouble. A lot of people say they relate to it," said Whibley. The song gets its name from the slang term for a swollen lip as result from being punched in the face. Rolling Stone Magazine described the sound of the song as if Sum 41 went from blink-182 to Beastie Boys to Black Sabbath, all in one song.

Fat Lip

Storming through the party like my name was El ninio
When I'm hangin out drinking in the back of an El camino
As a kid, I was a skid and no one knew me by name.
I trashed my own house party cause no body came.

I know I'm not the one you thought you knew back in high school
Never going, ever showing up when we had to.
attention that we crave don't tell us to behave,
I'm sick of always hearing act your age.

I don't want to waste my time
become another casualty of society.
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down.

Because you don't
Know us at all we laugh when old people fall.
But what would you expect with a conscience so small.
Heavy metal and mullets it's how we were raised.
Maiden and priest were the gods that we praised

Cause we like having fun at other peoples expense and,
Cutting people down is just a minor offence then,
It's none of your concern, I guess I'll never learn.
I'm sick of being told to wait my turn.

I don't want to waste my time
become another casualty of society.
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down.

Don't count on me, to let you know when.
Don't count on me, I'll do it again.
Don't count on me, it's the point you're missing.
Don't count on me, cause I'm not listening.

Well I'm a no goodnick lower middle class brat,
Back packed and I don't give a shit about nothing.
You be standing on the corner talking all that kufuffin.
But you don't make sense from all the gas you be huffing.
Then if the egg don't stain you'll be ringing off the hook,
You're on the hit list wanted in the telephone book.
I like songs with distortion, to drink in proportion.
The doctor said my mom should have had an abortion.

I don't want to waste my time
become another casualty of society.
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down.

Waste my time with them
Casualty of society.
Waste my time again,
Victim of your conformity
And back down.

JOE COCKER - You Are So Beautiful (1975)

John Robert "Joe" Cocker OBE (born 20 May 1944) is an English rock/blues singer who came to popularity in the 1960s, and is most known for his gritty voice, spastic physical performances, and his cover versions of popular songs, particularly those of The Beatles.

"You Are So Beautiful" is a song written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher. It was first recorded by Preston and made popular in a version by Joe Cocker.

Preston's original version first appeared on his 1974 album The Kids and Me. Cocker's producer, Jim Price created a slowed-down arrangement for Cocker's version, which first appeared on the album I Can Stand a Little Rain (released later in 1974). Released as a single, this Joe Cocker version reached #5 on the 1975 Billboard pop single charts and helped the album become a hit.

You Are So Beautiful
You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can't you see
You are everything I hoped for
You are everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Such joy and happiness you bring
Such joy and happiness you bring
Like a dream
A guiding light that shines in the night
Heavens gift to me
You are so beautiful to me

JOHN CONNOLLY - The Unquiet (2007)

John Connolly (born May 31, 1968, Dublin) is an Irish writer who is best known for his series of novels starring private detective Charlie Parker. His first novel, Every Dead Thing, was met with critical acclaim; it was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel and went on to win the 2000 Shamus Award for Best First Private Eye Novel (he is the first author outside of the US to have won the award). Connolly's debut introduced readers to the anti-hero Charlie Parker, a former police officer hunting the killer of his wife and daughter. Connolly has since written a further 5 books in the popular Parker series and a non-Parker thriller, as well as venturing outside of the crime genre with the publication of first, an anthology of ghost stories and later, a novel about a young boy's coming-of-age journey through a fantasy realm during World War II England. Several film adaptations of his works are currently in development; the earliest to appear to audiences will be partially based on the short story "The New Daughter", and stars Kevin Costner and Ivana Baquero, previously seen in the acclaimed film Pan's Labyrinth. Connolly is also known to tour extensively to promote the launch of his books. In 2007, Connolly made book-store appearances in Ireland, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Taiwan to promote The Unquiet.

The Unquiet

I

Where can a dead man go?
A question with an answer only dead men know.

Nickel Creek, When in Rome

Prologue
This world is full of broken things: broken hearts and broken promises, broken people. This world, too, is a fragile construct, a honeycomb place where the past leaches into the present, where the weight of blood guilt and old sins causes lives to collapse and forces children to lie with the remains of their fathers in the tangled ruins of the aftermath.
I am broken, and I have broken in return. Now I wonder how much hurt can be visited upon other before before the universe takes action, before some outside forces decides that enough has been endured. I once thought that it was a question of balance, but I no longer believe that. I think that what I have done was out of all proportion to what was done to me, but it is the nature of revenge. It scalates. It cannot be controlled. One hurts invites another, on and on until the original injury is all but forgotten in the chaos of what follows.
I was a revenger once. I will be one no more.
But this world is full of broken things.

THE BEATLES - She's Leaving Home (1967)

She's Leaving Home (Lennon/McCartney)

Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her hankerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free

She (We gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving (Sacraficed most of our lives)
Home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years (Bye bye)

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband "Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?"

She (We never thought of ourselves)
Is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
Home (We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years (Bye bye)

Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade

She (What did we do that was wrong)
Is having (We didn't know it was wrong)
Fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied
For so many years (Bye bye)

She's leaving home
Bye bye

BON JOVI - Runaway (1982)

Runaway
On the street where you live girls talk about their social lives
They're made of lipstick, plastic and paint, a touch of sable in their eyes
All your life all you've asked when's your Daddy gonna talk to you
You were living in another world tryin' to get a message through.

No one heard a single word you said.
They should have seen it in your eyes
What was going around your head.

[Chorus:]
Ooh, she's a little runaway.
Daddy's girl learned fast
All those things he couldn't say.
Ooh, she's a little runaway.

A different line every night guaranteed to blow your mind
I see you out on the streets, call me for a wild time
So you sit home alone 'cause there's nothing left that you can do
There's only pictures hung in the shadows left there to look at you

You know she likes the lights at night on the neon Broadway signs
But she don't really mind, it's only love she hoped to find

[Repeat chorus]

No one heard a single word you said
They should have seen it in your eyes
What was going around your head

Ooh, she's a little runaway
Daddy's girl learned fast
All those things he couldn't say

Ooh, she's a little runaway
Daddy's girl learned fast
Now she works the night away

Ooh, she's a little runaway
Daddy's girl learned fast
All those things he couldn't say

Ooh, she's a little runaway
Daddy's girl learned fast
Now she works the night away

NINA SIMONE - Feeling Good (1965)

NINA SIMONE – Feeling Good

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
reeds driftin' on by you
know how I feel

(refrain:)x2
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel

(refrain)

Dragonfly out in the sun
you know what I mean,
don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun
you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That's what I mean

And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine you
know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel

(refrain)

PINK FLOYD - Another Brick In The Wall (1979)

Pink Floyd - We Don't Need No Education

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teacher, leave those kids alone
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave those kids alone
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all you're just another brick in the wall
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

"Wrong, do it again!"
"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you
have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"
"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddy!"

BEYONCE KNOWLES - If I Were A Boy (2008)

If I Were A Boy

If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted then go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
I’d kick it with who I wanted
And I’d never get confronted for it.
Cause they’d stick up for me.

[Chorus]
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man.
I’d listen to her
Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
Cause he’s taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy
I could turn off my phone
Tell evveryone it’s broken
So they’d think that I was sleepin’ alone
I’d put myself first
And make the rules as I go
Cause I know that she’d be faithful
Waitin’ for me to come home (to come home)

(Chorus)

It’s a little too late for you to come back
Say its just a mistake
Think I’d forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong

(Chorus)

But you’re just a boy
You don’t understand
Yeah you don’t understand
How it feels to love a girl someday
You wish you were a better man
You don’t listen to her
You don’t care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
Cause you’ve taken her for granted
And everything you have got destroyed
But you’re just a boy

AC/DC - Highway to Hell (1979)

Highway to Hell

Living easy, livin' free
Season ticket, on a one - way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell
On the Highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speedin' limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me 'round
Hey Satan! Paid my dues
Playin' in a rockin' band
Hey Mama! Look at me
I'm on my way to the promise land

I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell

Dont stop me!

I'm on the highway to hell!
I'm on the highway to hell!
I'm on the highway to hell!
I'm on the highway to hell!

And I'm goin down..all the way!
I'm on the highway to hell..

MICHAEL JACKSON - Thriller (1982)

"Thriller" Rap by Vincent Price. Written and composed by Rod Temperton

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for life inside a killer, thriller tonight

You hear a door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination
But all the while you hear the creature creepin' up behind
You're out of time

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain't no second chance against the thing with forty eyes
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting to survive inside a killer, thriller tonight

Night creatures call
The dead start to walk in their masquerade
There's no escapin' the jaws of the alien this time (they're open wide)
This is the end of your life

They're out to get you, there's demons closing in on every side
They will possess you unless you change the number on your dial
Now is the time for you and I to cuddle close together
All thru the night I'll save you from the terrors on the screen
I'll make you see

That it's a thriller, thriller night
'Cause I can thrill you more than any ghost who would dare to try
Girl, this is thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, diller, chiller
Thriller here tonight

Rap:(by Vincent Price
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'awl's neighborhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller
(laughter)

HASTA LA VISTA

HASTA LA VISTA (Jordan Francis & Roshon Bernard Fegan))

Couldn't wait to leave but now I hate to go
Last day of camp. Packing my bags slow
Made so many friends. Why does it have to end
In the end it's a win. Because we grown so close together
Remember when we first met. First day
Figured this would be no fun. No way
And now it time to leave. But now we wanna stay (stay x6)

[Chorus]
Hasta La Vista
I'm gonna say goodbye to you
Whatever happens I'll be cool with you
Wanna give me your number, I'll call ya
Promise I won't forget ya
Hasta La Vista
We'll all be going separate ways
Say everything you didn't say
This is your moment before you go
Come on now. Get up and show them

Keep doing your thing, thing, thing
Keep doing your thing, thing, thing
(And I'm gonna do my thing)

There's so much more inside of me
There's so much more I just want to be
All the things I've seen. Obviously I'm inspired
Got love for all the friendships I've acquired
Everybody put a hand up, put a hand up, hey, hey, hey
Everybody put a hand up, put a hand up and say...hey, hey, hey

MAROON 5 & BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB - She Will Be Loved (2004)

Maroon 5 is a Grammy Award-winning American pop rock band. Formed with only two members at the French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts[citation needed] and expanded in Los Angeles, the group comprises five members: Adam Levine (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Valentine (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar), and Matt Flynn (drums, percussion).

"She Will Be Loved" is the third single from the Californian band Maroon 5's 2002 debut album, Songs About Jane. Released in 2004, the single peaked at #5 in the USA becoming Maroon 5's second Top 10 single; it also peaked at #4 in the UK. The song reached #1 in Australia and remained at the top for 5 non-consecutive weeks; it also peaked at #2 in Latin America becoming Maroon 5's second consecutive Top 3. The song also reached #1 on the world-wide chart. The single is noted for its music video which stars Kelly Preston.
It premiered with a Grammy Award in 2005. The song was inspired by the complicated relation between Maroon 5's vocalist, Adam Levine, and his wife, Jane. The song is one of the band's more melodic-sounding songs, with its instantly-recognisable bassline running parallel to the main textured guitar riff. In some versions of the song, including the UK release, the age of the girl in the lyrics is seventeen instead of eighteen.

When the band was commissioned to perform at the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony for George Lucas, this song was chosen in tribute to Lucas' children, mainly his oldest daughter.

She Will Be Loved Lyrics
Songwriters: Carmichael, Jesse; Madden, Mickey; Levine, Adam; Dusick, Ryan; Valentine, James;

Beauty queen of only eighteen
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles
And wound up at your door
I've had you so many times but somehow
I want more

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
She will be loved

Tap on my window knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
It doesn't matter anymore

It's not always rainbows and butterflies
It's compromise that moves us along, yeah
My heart is full and my door's always open
You can come anytime you want

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

I know where you hide
Alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls

Tap on my window knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

[in the background]
Please don't try so hard to say goodbye
Please don't try so hard to say goodbye

Yeah
[softly]
I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain

Try so hard to say goodbye

ROBERTA FLACK - Killing Me Softly With His Song (1973)

Killing Me Softly With His Song
~ Roberta Flack

I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him
To listen for a while
And there he was this young boy
A stranger to my eyes

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

I felt all flushed with fever
Embarassed by the crowd
I felt he found my letters
And read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish
But he just kept right on

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasnt there
But he was there this stranger
Singing clear and strong

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

Tristán.

Tristan is my cat. He appeared one day in the house we have in the outskirts of Elche. He was a newborn cat and my sister gave him milk with pieces of fairy cakes. That is why he's such a spoilt cat! Then my bother and his girlfriend also went to see him and feed him and, finally, they brought it home. And he has been here for four years. He's quite naughty and bites and scratches us but we love him and we spoil him. As you can see in the photograph, he has got a blue eye and a green eye.

Tristan enjoys running up and down, hiding everywhere, sleeping covered by a blanket in the sofa or in someone's bed, going outside and sitting in the window and making all the neighbours think he's going to fall, mewing when he hears the birds and when he wants us to open the doors for him to go in.

This year I'll be working in another school but I wish you all a lot of success and I'll keep collaborating from time to time here.

ABBA - "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" (1980)

Gimme Gimme Gimme

Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Movie stars
Find the end of the rainbow, with a fortune to win
It's so different from the world I'm living in
Tired of T.V.
I open the window and I gaze into the night
But there's nothing there to see, no one in sight
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...

There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

THE BEATLES - Yesterday

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she
Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said,
Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm.

Tom Waits
Please Call Me, Baby

The evening fell just like a star
Left a trail behind
You spit as you slammed out the door
If this is love we're crazy
As we fight like cats and dogs
But I just know there's got to be more

So please call me, baby
Wherever you are
It's too cold to be out walking in the streets
We do crazy things when we're wounded
Everyone's a bit insane
I don't want you catching your death of cold
Out walking in the rain

I admit that I ain't no angel
I admit that I ain't no saint
I'm selfish and I'm cruel, but you're blind
If I exorcise my devils
Well my angels may leave too
When they leave they're so hard to find

(Chorus)

We're always at each other's throats
It drives me up the wall
Most of the time I'm just blowing off steam
And I wish to God you'd leave me
And I wish to God you'd stay
Life's so different than it is in your dreams

(Chorus)

HAENDEL - For Unto Us A Child Is Born (1742)

George Frideric Handel (23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759) was a German-born Baroque composer who is famous for his operas, oratorios and concerti grossi. Born as Georg Friedrich Händel in Halle, he spent most of his adult life in England, becoming a subject of the British crown on 22 January 1727. His most famous works are Messiah, an oratorio set to texts from the King James Bible; Water Music; and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Strongly influenced by the techniques of the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the English composer Henry Purcell, his music was known to many significant composers who came after him, including Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
Handel's Messiah was first performed in New Musick Hall in Fishamble Street, Dublin on 13 April 1742, with 26 boys and five men from the combined choirs of St Patrick's and Christ Church cathedrals participating.

For Unto Us a Child Is Born

For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
and the government shall be upon His shoulder;
and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God,
the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)

(Porque un niño nos es nacido, hijo nos es dado, y el principado sobre su hombro; y se llamará su nombre Admirable, Consejero, Dios Fuerte, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz.)
